development and provide and organise accessible, high-quality<br />
continuing education and professional development programmes for<br />
nurses, midwives and allied health care staff. For particular NMPDU<br />
sponsored projects we run courses that cater for the East Coast Area”.<br />
Courses delivered in the NEC incorporate both academic content<br />
and also effective learning, personal development and interpersonal<br />
skills. Some of the courses offered are listed below:<br />
• Precep<strong>to</strong>rship Programme.<br />
• LEO Programme.<br />
• Management Education Programmes.<br />
• Induction and Orientation for new nursing staff.<br />
Medical Postgraduate Training: Ongoing postgraduate education is<br />
provided for all doc<strong>to</strong>rs at the <strong>Hospital</strong>. As part of self-directed<br />
continuing education, Medical and Surgical Grand Rounds, a wide<br />
variety of clinical conferences and membership tu<strong>to</strong>rials, are run<br />
frequently. These meetings are run by each department and will<br />
provide a core of knowledge for those who should be continuing their<br />
medical education. Non-Consultant <strong>Hospital</strong> Doc<strong>to</strong>rs (NCHDs) are<br />
encouraged <strong>to</strong> participate in undergraduate teaching as a valuable<br />
way <strong>to</strong> consolidate/increase their own knowledge base. Interns have<br />
protected lunchtime teaching time during the week. <strong>St</strong>rong links <strong>to</strong><br />
UCD are present at Consultant and NCHD levels.<br />
SKILL Programme: SKILL (Securing Knowledge Intra Lifelong Learning)<br />
is a national programme, which was established under social<br />
partnership. The Trade Unions representing support service grades<br />
secured a significant fund in order <strong>to</strong> deliver education and<br />
development, which facilitates continuous improvement of the way<br />
