Force Majeure Leave: Employees may take immediate time off work<br />

in the event of an unforeseen injury or illness of a close family member<br />

where the presence of the Employee is indispensable. The maximum<br />

amount of Force Majeure leave that may be taken in a given period<br />

is determined by legislation.<br />

Discretionary Leave<br />

The <strong>Hospital</strong> offers a wide range of discretionary leave in order <strong>to</strong><br />

support Employees in times of difficulty, assist Employee development<br />

and positively promote work/life balance.<br />

The aim of the <strong>Hospital</strong> is <strong>to</strong> facilitate Employees where possible,<br />

without undermining our ability <strong>to</strong> service the needs of our patients.<br />

Due <strong>to</strong> the needs of the <strong>Hospital</strong> it will not always be possible <strong>to</strong> grant<br />

discretionary leave. All requests are treated on an individual basis.<br />

Sick Leave: The <strong>Hospital</strong> may grant sick leave <strong>to</strong> support Employees<br />

through a difficult time of illness.<br />

Employees who are absent from work must inform their Head of<br />

Service / Line Manager at the earliest possible time, at least two hours<br />

prior <strong>to</strong> the expected time for commencement of duty or in line with<br />

your departmental policies. Employees are covered by the sick leave<br />

scheme applicable <strong>to</strong> their grade and employment status, details of<br />

which are set out in the hospital sick leave policy, which is available<br />

on the Intranet.<br />

Marriage Leave: Marriage Leave is a benefit that some grades of staff<br />

may be entitled <strong>to</strong> use around the time of their wedding. In order <strong>to</strong><br />

qualify for this benefit, the Employee must be below a certain annual<br />

leave threshold.<br />
