1. Anticipating the ship’s behaviour in the<br />

marine district’s shallow and confined waters.<br />

STANDARD<br />

Training environment<br />

• Teamwork.<br />

• Various situations and visibility conditions.<br />

• On the basis of data on ship’s characteristics<br />

and navigation conditions.<br />

• Using:<br />

– passage plan, navigational instruments,<br />

such as ECDIS-generated electronic chart<br />

and technical documentation.<br />

• Paying special attention to the most difficult<br />

passages in the marine district.<br />

Performance criteria<br />

1.1 Precisely assess squat and its effect.<br />

1.2 Properly anticipate ship’s reactions when<br />

meeting and passing in a fairway.<br />

1.3 Correctly estimate stopping and turning<br />

distances as a function of depth under keel.<br />

1.4 Correctly anticipate ship’s reactions in<br />

relation to its centre of gravity, in the most<br />

difficult passages.<br />

1.5 Precisely estimate increase in draught as a<br />

result of list.<br />

1.6 Take into account effects of suction at stern.<br />
