Training environment<br />

In the classroom:<br />

• using books on towing in the marine district.<br />

CONTENT<br />

1. Reviewing general knowledge regarding<br />

factors determining whether to use a tug.<br />

– local characteristics;<br />

– tide;<br />

– currents;<br />

– ships at wharfside;<br />

– regulations, etc.<br />

2. Types of tugs, their capacities, service fees.<br />

3. Harbour regulations.<br />

SUGGESTED METHODS<br />

Instructor<br />

• Review general theoretical knowledge<br />

regarding factors involved in deciding<br />

whether to use a tug, general knowledge that<br />

comes under the skill performing emergency<br />

manoeuvres.<br />

• Give various examples and analyse which<br />

decision would be most appropriate in each<br />

case. A scenario, preferably pre-recorded,<br />

could be presented in the simulator and<br />

analysed by the group.<br />
