STANDARD Performance criteria 4.1 Rigorously check accuracy and reliability of electronic navigational aids. 4.2 Correctly determine special features of most difficult passages in the marine district. 4.3 Make judicious decisions based on ship’s behaviour, tides, currents, and traffic. 4.4 Constantly maintain ship on set course. 4.5 Maintain a safe speed based on prevailing conditions in the marine district, according to regulations. 4.6 Commit fully to memory distances and danger bearings of main landmarks. 4.7 Comply strictly with regulations and passage plan. 4.8 Be constantly alert. Performance criteria 5.1 Accurately estimate arrival times at callingin points, course changing points, difficult passages, and meeting points with other ships. 5.2 Take into account factors that affect speed made good. 5.3 Comply strictly with communication procedures in force in the marine district. 5-27
