Test<br />

Written, oral, or practical exercise performed by a candidate as part of an examination or<br />

competition for the purpose of evaluating his or her abilities and knowledge.<br />

Practical test<br />

Used to evaluate a work product or process.<br />

Practical knowledge test<br />

Used to evaluate knowledge directly linked to the job function.<br />

Cognitive skills<br />

Relate to the knowledge and the intellectual ability needed to perform a job function<br />

– i.e., the mental functions involved in perceiving, understanding, and knowing.<br />

Psychomotor skills<br />

Relate to the performance of an activity or a task – i.e., the dexterity required by various<br />

procedures.<br />

Interactive social behaviour<br />

Relates to attitudes and work habits – i.e., the way in which an individual relates to his or<br />

her environment.<br />

Program<br />

Integrated set of learning activities carried out with a view to meeting training objectives as<br />

measured against established standards.<br />

Skill<br />

A skill is an integrated set of the knowledge, abilities, attitudes, and perceptions necessary<br />

to perform a task or a work activity at the threshold of performance required.<br />

Objective<br />

Skill to be learned and mastered.<br />

Standard<br />

Level of performance, considered to be the threshold of success by which it is recognized<br />

that an objective has been met.<br />
