5, Only those elements wh ich wi ll be checked during the actual
inspection are to be mentioned on the inspection fonn. Elements
located above the water level wi ll not be included in inspection
fonns used for Ma in Inspections Under Water. Should the
bridge incorporate elements other than those ind icated, these
can subsequently be added to the fonn. Any fau lts or defects
should be commented on so that they can be rect ifi ed by the
next inspection. One should check that the elements have been
recorded as us ing the correct material, have been allocated the
correct type description and, ifneed be, axes.
6. All elements included in an inspecti on shall be checked for pos
sible damage which should then be described for each element
with the use of damage designations. In each instance the degree
and the consequences of the damage is to be assessed. I freIe
vant, the damage can be illustrated by taking a photograph.
7. Ifpossible, provide the cause(s) of the damage.
8. Proposed maintenance measures and when these will be carried
out must be described for all damage of level m 2. Procedure
Nos. 87 and 88 in Norwegian Public Roads Admini stration
Manual No. 026: ' Procedural Code - 2. 1997' \ .... ill be of assitance
in describing these measures.
9. Esti mates should be drawn up for each proposed pi ece of main
tenance based on the extent of the damage and the unit cost. The
extent of the damage, i.e. size and quantity, should be noted on
the fonn during the in spection.
10 The results of any measurements and materials testing should
be presented as indicated in Chapter 8.4 'Measurements' and
Chapter 8.5 'Materials Testing'.
II. A Special In spection (see Chapter 6.7) is to be recommended if
Routine Inspections uncover a great need for repairs or are not
sufficient fo r determining the kind of damage, its consquences,
extent or cause(s). A note should be made of the measure
menls/materials testing to be undertaken, the degree to which
this should be done and the localion(s).
12. The results of the inspection should be recorded in BRUTUS
International at the conclusion of the inspection.
13. Ifrequired the inspection and maintenance plans may be adjusted.
