Defrosting salt
Chloride resulting from defrosting salt or sand mixed w ith salt is
able to penetrate the bridge deck fro m the topside if tl1-e bridge has
not been equipped with a damp course. The fo llowing ca n be considered
as vulnerable areas:
* Edge girders and the underside of bridge decks along a bridge's
edges
* Joint constructions
* Pillars supporting approach sections to a bridge
* Abutment piers and cul vert walls situated 0 - 2 m. from a bridge
* Localised areas under water outl ets and otherwise in depressi
ons where waler is stagnant .

Chapter 7.3.9.
Procedures
Reference is made to the Norwegian Public Roads Administration
Handbook No. 0 14: " Laboratory Testing" and No. 015: "On Site
Testing".
The diffe rences in depth of the measurements and the intervals
between test sites in a profile must be estimated in light of the
positioning of the reinforcement and the objective oft he test. In
some cases the intelVals detai led in Procedura l Codc-2 can appear
to be a little rough. The alternative depth intervals for 30 mm. and
50 mm. respectively for a pl anned cover could for example be:
