APPENDIX-I : DEFINITIONS<br />

Study Centres: Study Centres (SCs) are locations where most of the face-to-face<br />

interaction between teachers (tutors/academic counsellors) and learners of an open<br />

university takes place. Apart from organizing the face-to-face sessions, SCs provide<br />

library, audio-video and classroom support, besides the necessary information<br />

services to the learners and to the public as and when required. SCs are generally<br />

part-time establishments located generally in full-fledged existing conventional<br />

institutions.<br />

(1) Information Centres: Information Centre is a local centre of the<br />

University. It is located at district or highly populated city level<br />

where study centers are not opened by the University, to intimate<br />

students about the academic activities of the university.<br />

(2) Basic Information Centres: Basic Information centre is a<br />

University centre which is located at the tehsil level to facilitate to<br />

students to get admission forms and clarification of queries of the<br />

students about the academic programmes of the University.<br />

(3) Special Study Centres: Special Study Centres are opened for a<br />

special category of learners like women’s study centre.<br />

(4) Satellite Study Centres: Satellite Study Centres are likely to<br />

become full-fledged study centres of the University. These centres<br />

are opened for military areas for military personnel.<br />

(5) Chief Coordinator: Chief Coordinator is the head of the unit<br />

where the study centre is located.<br />

(6) Coordinator: Coordinator is in charge of the study centre and<br />

looks after the study centre counsellor of the academic<br />

programmes, run by the University.<br />

Term-End Examination: It refers to end-of -the- course/programme test to make<br />

some kind of formal judgment about the performance of the learner giving marks or<br />

grades. Term-end examination is a kind of summative evaluation.<br />
