• Tests results, including any calculations and graphs;
• Inspection findings;
• Other pertinent or relevant details;
• The Contract requirements or the approved design requirements;
and
• Statement of compliance or otherwise with Contract
requirements or the requirements of the approved design.
10.7.5.4. Inspection and Testing of Pipelines
10.7.5.4.1. General
On completion of construction, internal surfaces of
pipelines shall be cleaned thoroughly in such a way as to
remove all oil, grit and other deleterious matter. Before
testing any pipeline, the Contractor shall ensure that it is
anchored adequately and that thrusts from bends,
branch outlets or from the pipeline ends are transmitted
to solid ground or to a suitable temporary anchorage.
Open ends shall be stopped with plugs, caps or blank
flanges properly jointed.
The Contractor shall notify the Engineer at least two
clear workings days beforehand of his intention to test
a section of pipeline.
10.7.5.4.2. Testing Gravity Pipelines
1. Gravity pipelines laid in open cut shall be tested after
they are jointed and before any concreting or backfilling
is commenced, other than such as may be necessary for
structural stability whilst under test.
2. The pipelines shall be tested by means of air and by a
visual examination, in lengths determined by the course
of construction, in accordance with a program submitted
by the Contractor and approved by the Engineer.
Generally pipelines will be tested as complete lines or
between manholes. Visual examinations shall be done
by mirror and light, in which case, deviation of plus or
minus 20mm, i.e. for 160mm and 200mm pipelines a
75% and 80% clear gauging is required.
3. A further air test as detailed in section 10.7.5.4.2 b)
shall be carried out after the backfilling is complete.
Failure of this test may require a water test as detailed in
Section 10.7.5.4.2 a).
