MARCH 20<br />
13 1884 A small corrugated iron and timber church behind the unfinished<br />
manse in Berry was opened and dedicated as the Presbyterian<br />
Church.<br />
1 1961 The Budd diesel air conditioned train - the only one in New South<br />
Wales at the time - was introduced to the south coast run.<br />
1 1967 Formation of the <strong>Shoalhaven</strong> District Historical Society.<br />
R A Bishop was President and P J Schofield was Secretary/<br />
Treasurer.<br />
11 1967 The Commercial Bank of Australia Ltd opened it's single storey, brick<br />
premises at 46 Kinghorn Street, Nowra.<br />

1 1943 The Ulladulla boat building works at Ulladulla Harbour launched its<br />
first small ship, which was part of an order of 4 tugboats for the<br />
United States of America. Regretfully, it stuck on the sand at the<br />
launching and the harbour had to be dredged as a result. The<br />
works employed a staff of 20 and 100 employees. From 1943 to<br />
1947 thirty small ships were built. This tugboat was the first<br />
launched on the New South Wales coast as part of the program and<br />
the thirty ships launched was a record for coastal yards of the war<br />
and post war era.<br />
7 1974 A cyclone uncovered the wreck of the "Coolangatta" and dumped it<br />
high on the beach north of the Tweed River. Souvenir hunters<br />
quickly removed what the Government and the sea had not been<br />
able to destroy in 127 years.<br />
MARCH 23<br />
1 1962 The airstrip on R Carter's property on Berry Mountain Road was<br />
opened by the "unofficial Mayor of Kangaroo Valley", H O Cox. This<br />
strip was developed by working bees of farmers to further aerial top<br />
dressing of pastures with superphosphate.<br />
1 1968 The sculpture erected as an addition to the memorial gates to the<br />
Nowra Showground was unveiled by the Governor of NSW, Sir<br />
Roden Cutler, VC.<br />
13 1969 The first extensions to the Berry Bowling Club were officially opened.<br />
