16 1915 The telephone was installed in the Pyree Post Office (the third post<br />

office for Pyree and part of the Pyree School and Residence).<br />

1 1828 Surveyor Thomas Florance surveyed from Burrill to Narrawallee<br />

which he called Nurrahwherree.<br />

1 1895 Opening of the first temporary David Berry Hospital at Broughton<br />

Creek (later Berry).<br />

MAY 14<br />

1 1938 Bomaderry water and electricity were officially turned on by H J Bate,<br />

MLA. Water was secured from a dam on Bomaderry Creek whilst<br />

electricity, extended to Berry and later to Bomaderry in 1927 and was<br />

distributed to the rural areas of Bolong, Back Forest, Coolangatta,<br />

Jerry Bailey, Meroo, Jasper's Brush and Broughton Village, ten years<br />

later.<br />

MAY 15<br />

20 1797 Three survivors of the wreck of the "Sydney Cove" were picked up by<br />

a fishing boat 14 miles south of Botany Bay. They were a Mr Clark,<br />

a European sailor and a lascar. These were all that remained of a<br />

party of 17 who had attempted to walk from Point Hicks to Port<br />

Jackson. The "Sydney Cove" had been beached on an island in the<br />

Furneaux group, north-west of an Dieman's Land. Some of the<br />

survivors attempted to make Sydney by longboat but in turn were<br />

wrecked at Point Hicks.<br />

The three were the first white men to traverse the <strong>Shoalhaven</strong> by<br />

land.<br />

1 1828 Surveyor Thomas Florance went up Narrawallee Creek to within half<br />

a mile of the location of the present bridge on the Princes Highway.<br />

1 1926 Opening of the Country Women's Association rest rooms in Central<br />

Park, Berry Street, Nowra.<br />

1 1890 Establishment of a receiving Post Office at Bellawongarah.<br />
