4 1818 Captain Throsby wrote of entering "a large plain of flat forest called
by the natives Tallawa, from whence we saw the deep ravines
running to Shoals Haven".
26 1903 The Kangaroo Valley Times reported that John Irvine of Wattamolla
had been charged with possessing a still. This was for the
manufacture of the famous Kangaroo Valley "Moonshine" or
"Mountain Dew". Over 490 lbs of sugar had been used over a 3
week period. Irvine was fined £100/-/-. This was supposed to act
as a deterrent but "moonshiners" were still being caught as late as
1930 in Kangaroo Valley.
9 1931 The Shoalhaven District Ambulance Committee was formed (initiated
by the Nowra Country Women's Association) for the purpose of
raising funds to purchase a vehicle to replace the horse-drawn
ambulance which had been in service since 1912.
9 1979 Osborne House, accommodation for the aged, was opened by
Federal Health Minister, Mr Ralph Hunt.

16 1942 A meeting was held to appoint new trustees for the Greenwell Point
Union Church.

23 1889 Ulladulla School was closed because of the teacher's (Mr W Evans)
illness, first diagnosed as rheumatism then later as typhoid fever.
He died on 6 May 1889.
1 1962 Councillor F P Ryan, the Shire President of the first council elected
since the term of office of the Administrator, K G H Hawskaw, was
forced to step down as Shire President, due to ill health. Councillor
R A Bishop was elected to succeed him. Clr. Ryan died on 20th
May, 1962 whilst still in office.
16 1966 The Greenwell Point Swimming Pool was officially opened.
2 1984 Public ceremony on the Gold Coast, Queensland to “Decree and
Seal” an agreement between Shoalhaven City Council and Gold
Coast City Council that the town of Coolangatta, New South Wales
and the town of Coolangatta Queensland “....... be recognised as
towns with an especial historical link and bond of friendship”

1 1812 Surveyor George William Evans reached Jervis Bay aboard "Lady
Nelson".
