1 1891 Floods in the area covered many roads and bridges. The coach trip<br />
from Nowra to Milton, usually taking a quick 8 hours, took 53 hours.<br />
5 1913 The first of 17 Nowra deaths in the pneumonic influenza epidemic<br />
occurred.<br />
1 1948 The gazettal of <strong>Shoalhaven</strong> Shire which was formed by the<br />
amalgamation of Broughton Vale Municipal Council, Berry Municipal<br />
Council, Nowra Municipal Council, Ulladulla Municipal Council,<br />
Cambewarra Shire Council and Clyde Shire Council.<br />
19 1948 Last meeting of the Clyde Shire Council prior to amalgamation into<br />
<strong>Shoalhaven</strong> Shire.<br />

13 1955 Inaugural meeting of the Womens Bowling Club, Berry.<br />

23 1920 The first teacher, Mr V. McCarthy, was appointed at the school at<br />
Red Head (now Bendalong). His salary was £4/10/- per week.<br />
1 1974 Max Vost was appointed Charter President of the newly formed<br />
Huskisson Rotary Club.<br />

1 1948 First meeting of the provisional <strong>Shoalhaven</strong> Shire Council. This took<br />
place at the Nowra School of Arts.<br />
JUNE 30<br />
1 1828 Surveyor Thomas Florance recorded Termeil Lagoon and Tabourie<br />
Lake and explored Burrill Lake to the tidal water near Woodstock.<br />
9 1919 The first sufferers in Nowra, of the pneumonic influenza epidemic of<br />
1919, were Mrs C Watson and her daughter from Numbaa. They<br />
were admitted to a temporary hospital at the Nowra Public School.<br />
17 people in the Nowra district died from the epidemic. (The first on<br />
June 25) During the peak of the epidemic the horse drawn<br />
ambulance would bring patients to the front door. The horse drawn<br />
hearse called at the back.<br />
