1 1967 The Opening of the <strong>Shoalhaven</strong> Shire Library in Berry Street, Nowra,<br />
was conducted by the president of the Shires Association, Councillor<br />
E K Vickery, MLC. The Chief Librarian was Miss J Geake.<br />
MAY 6<br />
16 1878 Greenwell Point provisional school was granted Public School status.<br />
The official report included "that Greenwell Point is a small village<br />
supporting a population of some 13 or 14 householders who<br />
represent a school population of 38 children - these children are now<br />
enrolled at the existing school".<br />
1 1880 First edition of the Broughton Creek Mail - published by<br />
C I Watson, it sold for 6 pence a copy.<br />

1 1899 Opening of the Meroo Meadow Dairy Company on land owned by D<br />
Fletcher on the creek beside the Nowra-Berry Road. It was the<br />
fourth separating station within a two mile radius and supplied Berry<br />
Central Factory with cream.<br />
MAY 9<br />
1 1879 Direct communication between Broughton Creek (now Berry) with<br />
Sydney was established by the steamer "Our Own".<br />
1 1934 The foundation stone for the Berry Presbyterian Church, on the<br />
corner of Alexandra and Victoria Streets, Berry, was laid by<br />
Moderator, Reverend D F Brandt. It was completed and opened on<br />
August 29th of the same year.<br />
MAY 10<br />
2 1994 The Govenor of NSW Rear Admiral Peter Sinclair AO,<br />
launched the <strong>Shoalhaven</strong> Aussiehost Program at the<br />
Naval Avaition Museum at 12 noon. The Aussiehost<br />
Program is a Training Course designed to lift the skills of<br />
people in the Tourism and Hospitality Industry.<br />
MAY 11<br />
7 1888 A meeting at Dent's Hotel, Nowra, saw the formation of the Nowra<br />
Football Club. It played under the Rugby rules. The first President<br />
was Mr J J Scotchmer.<br />
