18 1970 The Wandandian Public School was closed after being open for 59
years (since 1911). It had replaced an earlier school which had
been opened on 14 August 1886, which in turn replaced an earlier
school of split slabs and a bark roof. This itself replaced another
"school" which had been conducted in Charles Loadsman's old
residence.

19 1900 The schooner "Gleaner" of 115 tons was lost off the Ulladulla Coast.
She was carrying timber.

5 1888 The first game of football was played in Nowra, between the local
side and Broughton Creek (Berry) on the ground adjacent to the
Imperial (Empire) Hotel.
7 The entrance fee was 2/6 and the colours worn by Nowra were
yellow and purple with a black cap. Broughton Creek were red,
white and blue. Nowra won 2-Nil (the following week Broughton
Creek defeated Nowra 5-4).

1 1877 Opening of the Kangaroo Valley Church of England Sunday School
by Mrs Elkin, wife of the local Minister.

19 1878 The placid life of Ulladulla was rudely disturbed on this Saturday
afternoon when a great meteorite was seen to flash across the sky
and pass away to the mountains to the south and the west. Eyewitnesses
described it as being "like a fire ball with a trail to it and as
large as the sun and so brilliant it was painful to look at". Following
its disappearance on explosion was heard all over the district.
