18 1970 The Wandandian Public School was closed after being open for 59<br />
years (since 1911). It had replaced an earlier school which had<br />
been opened on 14 August 1886, which in turn replaced an earlier<br />
school of split slabs and a bark roof. This itself replaced another<br />
"school" which had been conducted in Charles Loadsman's old<br />
residence.<br />

19 1900 The schooner "Gleaner" of 115 tons was lost off the Ulladulla Coast.<br />
She was carrying timber.<br />

5 1888 The first game of football was played in Nowra, between the local<br />
side and Broughton Creek (Berry) on the ground adjacent to the<br />
Imperial (Empire) Hotel.<br />
7 The entrance fee was 2/6 and the colours worn by Nowra were<br />
yellow and purple with a black cap. Broughton Creek were red,<br />
white and blue. Nowra won 2-Nil (the following week Broughton<br />
Creek defeated Nowra 5-4).<br />

1 1877 Opening of the Kangaroo Valley Church of England Sunday School<br />
by Mrs Elkin, wife of the local Minister.<br />

19 1878 The placid life of Ulladulla was rudely disturbed on this Saturday<br />
afternoon when a great meteorite was seen to flash across the sky<br />
and pass away to the mountains to the south and the west. Eyewitnesses<br />
described it as being "like a fire ball with a trail to it and as<br />
large as the sun and so brilliant it was painful to look at". Following<br />
its disappearance on explosion was heard all over the district.<br />
