JANUARY 15
1 1873 Laying of the foundation stone of the Nowra Presbyterian Church by
Mrs Grant using a silver trowel and myall mallet. The Church was
built in freestone to accommodate 218, cost £1187 and was opened
in January 1875.
26 1930 The Daily Telegraph Pictorial reported that Edward Humphries (aged
74) and Thomas Humphries (aged 64) were fined £300/-/- for being
in possession of an illicit still in Kangaroo Valley. They claimed in
their defence that they made the "Moonshine" or "Mountain Dew" for
their own use.
Their mother, Mrs Humphries, was 104 at the time. She told friends
of the terrible news that "the boys have got caught and I've only got
enough stuff to last for two more years .......". She died when she
was 106.
