JANUARY 15<br />
1 1873 Laying of the foundation stone of the Nowra Presbyterian Church by<br />
Mrs Grant using a silver trowel and myall mallet. The Church was<br />
built in freestone to accommodate 218, cost £1187 and was opened<br />
in January 1875.<br />
26 1930 The Daily Telegraph Pictorial reported that Edward Humphries (aged<br />
74) and Thomas Humphries (aged 64) were fined £300/-/- for being<br />
in possession of an illicit still in Kangaroo Valley. They claimed in<br />
their defence that they made the "Moonshine" or "Mountain Dew" for<br />
their own use.<br />
Their mother, Mrs Humphries, was 104 at the time. She told friends<br />
of the terrible news that "the boys have got caught and I've only got<br />
enough stuff to last for two more years .......". She died when she<br />
was 106.<br />
