1 1890 Foundation stone for the Union Church at Greenwell Point was laid<br />

by Mrs H G Morton, on a knoll in Jervis Street.<br />

DECEMBER 4<br />

1 1890 Comerong Dairy Company began operations on Comerong Island.<br />

H Smith was the butter maker and manager. Produce was<br />

sometimes irregular as transport depended on the punt. A new one<br />

was needed but not supplied until 1903. It sank in May 1907 but<br />

another was not installed until January 1908.<br />

4 & 17 1890 Berry officially named by Act of Parliament in honour of the Berry<br />

family. Formally known as Broughton Creek, the name change was<br />

agreed to by members of the public.<br />

1 1966 Culburra Surf Club officially opened by the Minister for Lands, Hon T<br />

L Lewis, MLA.<br />

DECEMBER 5<br />

1 1858 Opening of the Numbaa Sabbath School.<br />

19 1877 Eight Masons met at the Commercial Hotel, Milton, with the object of<br />

forming a Masonic Lodge at Milton. It was later consecrated on 23<br />

October 1878.<br />

15 1911 The vessel, the Lady Denman, was launched at Currambene Creek,<br />

Huskisson, by Mrs Bessie Lane. She was 33.5 metres long, 7.6<br />

metre beam and was designed to carry 500 passengers. She<br />

served as a Sydney ferry from 1912 to June 1979 - an active service<br />

of 67 years! She had only been designed to last 15 years.<br />

1 1914 Henry Rauch purchased the newspaper "The <strong>Shoalhaven</strong> News"<br />

from the Watson family.<br />

1 1959 Election of a new, seven member <strong>Shoalhaven</strong> Shire Council ending<br />

the 4 year term of K G H Hawkshaw as Administrator.<br />

1 & 19 1964 The Ulladulla Methodist Church was opened by Rev. E T Walker,<br />

president of the Methodist Church in NSW. It had been a long time<br />

coming as the land was originally granted in 1868.<br />

DECEMBER 6<br />

1 1827 Rev. Thomas Kendall received a promise of 1,280 acres at Ulladulla.<br />

He arrived in 1828.<br />

1 1878 Laying of the foundation stone for the Presbyterian Church in<br />

Kangaroo Valley. It was opened on 8 November the following year.<br />
