1 1932 The foundation stone for the Methodist Church, Berry, was laid by<br />
Rev. W. Green.<br />
11 1985 The NSW Building Society, with a Branch in Junction Street, Nowra,<br />
became the Advance Bank Australia Ltd.<br />
JULY 1<br />
1 1822 Alexander Berry first walked to the top of Mount Coolangatta.<br />
4 & 17 1822 Broughton Creek was officially named by Alexander Berry and<br />
Hamilton Hume after Broughton, the aboriginal stockman who served<br />
as a guide to Charles Throsby.<br />
1 1903 The Ulladulla and Milton Times was taken over by Herbert Bishop<br />
and continued under his ownership until 1921.<br />
18 1952 The Wandandian Progress Association was formed when a public<br />
meeting was called to discuss the possibility of obtaining a school<br />
residence and thus prevent school closure.<br />
11 1968 The ANZ bank opened its first branch in Nowra.<br />
JULY 2<br />
4 1863 Racecourse Beach at Ulladulla was named after a racecourse which<br />
was laid out on a nearby public recreation reserve, that was<br />
proclaimed on this day. Not to be confused with Racecourse Beach<br />
at Bawley Point where a three-quarter mile track and large<br />
grandstand was located near the beach.<br />
11 1866 The Commercial Banking Company of Sydney opened its second<br />
attempt at establishing a branch in the <strong>Shoalhaven</strong> (the first building<br />
had been washed away in the 1860 flood) in premises in the north<br />
eastern corner of South Street and Southern Road, Terara.<br />
1 1874 First meeting of the Municipality of Ulladulla at the Milton School of<br />
Arts.<br />
10 1902 The Imperial Hotel had its name changed to the Empire Hotel by<br />
Licencee Joseph Hill. The Imperial Hotel was built in July 1886 and<br />
replaced the Greenhills Hotel (on the same site) which had operated<br />
since the 1860's. The Empire Hotel has had various periods of reconstruction<br />
since then.<br />
1 1967 The Technical College was opened in Berry Street, Nowra by the<br />
Minister for Education, Hon. C. B. Butler, MLA.<br />
1 1969 The first isse of the Nowra News.<br />
