same voice as the voice over comes in, revealing that the speaker is the Disc Jockey<br />

on the radio station, saying, “You’ve been listening to WGAZ, the electricity of<br />

Manhattan. This request has gone all the way out to Crystal Lake and the Senior<br />

Class of Lakeview High.” The girl then exclaims, “That’s us!” establishing Crystal<br />

Lake as the new location after the Manhattan opening. The boy goes to lower the<br />

anchor, which lands near some electrical cables. He then goes in to the bed, where<br />

the girl is naked under the covers. She asks what is bothering him, and he says that<br />

nearby is the summer camp where “all those murders” took place and that “The<br />

guy’s dead now, somewhere at the bottom of this lake, if you believe the stories.”<br />

This introduces the similar introduction of Jason as part of myth and urban legend.<br />

There is a cut to the anchor at the bottom of the lake, slowly dragging toward the<br />

electrical cables. The boy then explains that Jason was a boy who drowned in the<br />

lake thirty years ago because the counsellors weren’t paying attention and the<br />

murders started once people had forgotten about it. This is the first time since The<br />

Final Chapter that Jason’s back story of being a child that drowned at the camp is<br />

introduced as narrative context, which is accompanied by a shot of Jason drowning,<br />

shot specifically for this film, instead of using a clip from Friday the 13th. It later<br />

becomes significant, as the boy Jason is who Rennie sees when her uncle is teaching<br />

her to swim, making her afraid of the water, so extending this far back in Jason’s<br />

history is important to understanding the narrative. The boy then describes the<br />

conclusion of Friday the 13 th , in which it is revealed that Jason’s mother, seeking<br />

vengeance killed the counsellors until one of them decapitated her. There is a cut<br />

again to the anchor underwater still dragging closer to the electrical cables, as the<br />

boy says, “Legend has it that Jason came back to get even, vowing to kill every
