15. SON 3: (CONFUSED) A bundle of sticks.<br />

16. FARMER: Exactly! A bundle of simple sticks.<br />

Now I want <strong>to</strong> see if any one of you<br />

can pick up that simple bundle of sticks<br />

and break it in two.<br />

17. SON 1: Easy! Any fool can break those little old<br />

sticks. Watch me, Father, I can do it.<br />

18. FX. CLATTER OF STICKS BEING MOVED.<br />

19. SON 1: (Grunting) Uh...it’s not...so easy...Uhh!<br />

20. SON 2: Don’t be so stupid. Anyone can break<br />

those sticks. Come on, let me do it. I’ll<br />

show you I’m the strongest. Father...<br />

21 FX. CLATTER OF STICKS BEING MOVED.<br />

22. SON 2: (GRUNTING) What’s...the<br />

matter..with these...stupid sticks They<br />

should break easily...Uhh!<br />

23. SON 3: Just pass them over here <strong>to</strong> a really<br />

strong man. You’ll see how easy the job<br />

is. Obviously, Father, I am stronger<br />

24. FX. CLATTER OF STICKS BEING MOVED.<br />

25. SON 3: (GRUNTING) What have you done<br />

<strong>to</strong> them..you two You put..s<strong>to</strong>nes in<br />

them...otherwise, I could break them<br />

easily...Uhh!<br />

26. FARMER: All right, my sons. S<strong>to</strong>p...all of you. Put<br />

the bundle of sticks on the floor.<br />

27. FX. CLATTER OF STICKS BEING DROPPED<br />

ON FLOOR.<br />

28. FARMER: Now then, let me untie the bundle.<br />

29. FX. CLATTER OF STICKS BEING UNTIED<br />

AND DROPPED.<br />

30. FARMER: Here, I will give you one stick<br />

each...one <strong>for</strong> you...one <strong>for</strong> you...and<br />

one <strong>for</strong> you. Now then, each of you,<br />

break the stick you are holding.<br />

31. FX. THREE SEPARATE STICK SNAPS.<br />

32. FARMER: And so, my sons, by this test you can<br />

see that as long as you remain united,<br />

you are strong enough <strong>to</strong> resist all<br />

enemies. Once you quarrel and become<br />

separated, you are vulnerable and can<br />

be destroyed.<br />
