Goce Smilevski was born in 1975 in Skopje, Macedonia. He received
his BA in comparative literature from the Ss. Cyril and Methodius
University of Skopje, studied Czech philology at the Charles University
in Prague, and obtained his MA from the Department of Gender
Studies at the Central European University in Budapest. His novel
Разговор со Спиноза (Conversation with Spinoza, 2002) was translated
into Slovene as Pogovor s Spinozo by Aleš Mustar and published
by the Založba Škuc publishing house in 2005. The novel was also
published in the USA, Serbia, Bulgaria, Poland, and Croatia and is
soon to be published in Spain, the Netherlands, Finland, Israel, and
Germany. The synopsis of the novel Сестрата на Сигмунд Фројд
(Sigmund Freud’s Sister) won him the CEI Fellowship for Writers in
Residence in 2006. The completed novel was published in 2010 and
won the European Union Prize for Literature.
