Future
Description: Proposed in 2010 is the installation
of LED street lighting on Douglas Avenue from
the east corporate limits/62 nd Street to 70 th Street
as Phase 1, and completing it as Phase 2 from 70 th
to 75 th Street. This project would refurbish and
retrofit approximately 135 streetscape and
pedestrian light poles from sodium florescent lights
to energy efficient LED lights.
Justification: The existing streetscape and
pedestrian lights along the Douglas Avenue
corridor in DUNA are not as energy efficient as
LED lighting.
Project Status: Plans need to be developed.
Phase 1 - The City received Federal ARRA 2009
stimulus funding for the initial phase to retrofit 64
lights on Douglas Avenue from the east corporate
limits at Merle Hay Mall to 70 th Street. Phase 2 –
The City has applied for County funding (Prairie
Meadows) to complete the transition of 73 lights
on Douglas Avenue from 70 th Street to 75 th Street.
Since the City owns the decorative light poles, the
utility rebate would not apply.
Effect on Operating Budget: Cost to operate
street light is approximately $500 annually.
