sacrament! (Ph 64 73) It is not carnal but<br />

rather pure, it is not lustful but rather<br />

compassionate, it is not <strong>of</strong> the darkness<br />

or the night but rather <strong>of</strong> the day and<br />

the Light. A marriage which is exhibited<br />

becomes adultery¹; and the bride has<br />

committed adultery¹ not only if she<br />

receives the sperm <strong>of</strong> another man, but<br />

even if she escapes from the bedroom°<br />

and is seen. She may only display<br />

herself to her father and her mother<br />

and the friend <strong>of</strong> the bridegroom<br />

(Jn 3:29) and the sons <strong>of</strong> the bridegroom.<br />

To these it is given to enter daily into<br />

the bridal-chamber. Yet as for the<br />

others, let them be made to yearn even<br />

to hear her voice and to enjoy (her)<br />

fragrance, and let them feed like the<br />

dogs from the crumbs that fall from<br />

(the) table. (Those) being from the<br />

Bridegroom within the Bride belong in<br />

the Bridal-Chamber. No one will be able<br />
