WELLS
According to the Wyoming Oil and Gas Conservation Commission (WYOCC), there were
approximately 39,570 producing wells in Wyoming in 2009 (WYOCC 2010). <strong>The</strong>se wells
produced 51.3 million barrels of crude oil and 2,359,248 MMcf of natural gas (EIA
2010a). Wyoming oil and gas development occurs primarily in seven geologic basins: Big
Horn Basin, Denver-Cheyenne, Greater Green River, Laramie, Overthrust Belt, Powder
River Basin, and Wind River Basin (Wyoming Heritage Foundation 2008). <strong>The</strong> largest
percentage of oil and gas development occurs in the Powder River Basin (primarily in
Campbell County) and the Greater Green River Basin (primarily in Sublette and
Sweetwater counties) where the Pinedale and Jonah natural gas fields are located. <strong>The</strong>
distribution of producing oil and gas wells in Wyoming is illustrated in Figure 2.
