b) C<strong>on</strong>siderati<strong>on</strong> should be given to the analysis of failures or malfuncti<strong>on</strong>s so that corrective acti<strong>on</strong> can be taken to<br />

minimize future envir<strong>on</strong>mental incidents.<br />

8.5.2 Pers<strong>on</strong>nel Training<br />

Pers<strong>on</strong>nel should be trained in the safe and efficient use of facility equipment.<br />

8.5.3 Equipment Inspecti<strong>on</strong><br />

Routine inspecti<strong>on</strong>s should be c<strong>on</strong>sidered <strong>on</strong> all equipment operating in corrosive envir<strong>on</strong>ments. All safety<br />

equipment should be tested <strong>on</strong> a routine basis to ensure proper operati<strong>on</strong>.<br />

8.5.4 Corrosi<strong>on</strong> M<strong>on</strong>itoring and Treatment<br />

M<strong>on</strong>itoring should be c<strong>on</strong>sidered if produced fluids are suspected of being corrosive. If produced fluids are<br />

determined to be corrosive, a corrosi<strong>on</strong> abatement program should be c<strong>on</strong>sidered. This is especially important in<br />

populated or envir<strong>on</strong>mentally sensitive areas. Operating procedures should provide for early identificati<strong>on</strong> of<br />

potential corrosi<strong>on</strong> problems in failure-pr<strong>on</strong>e equipment. Refer to NACE MR 0175.<br />

8.5.5 <str<strong>on</strong>g>House</str<strong>on</strong>g>keeping<br />

a) <str<strong>on</strong>g>The</str<strong>on</strong>g> facilities should be kept clean, maintained, and operated in a safe and envir<strong>on</strong>mentally sound manner.<br />

b) Facilities should be fenced in a manner to prevent access to the facility by the general public, livestock, or<br />

wildlife, where appropriate.<br />

c) Signs should be posted in c<strong>on</strong>spicuous locati<strong>on</strong>s to notify employees and the public of any dangerous situati<strong>on</strong>s<br />

such as, flammable c<strong>on</strong>diti<strong>on</strong>s, high voltage, and hydrogen sulfide. State or local regulati<strong>on</strong>s may specify certain<br />

posting requirements.<br />

d) Emergency ph<strong>on</strong>e numbers should be posted at the entrance to the facility, if located near a populated area.<br />

e) Weeds should be c<strong>on</strong>trolled to a degree compatible with the local envir<strong>on</strong>ment by cutting, mowing, or spraying to<br />

improve appearance and reduce the fire hazard. When herbicides are used to c<strong>on</strong>trol weeds, the chemicals<br />

should be properly applied by trained pers<strong>on</strong>nel.<br />

f) All equipment should be painted and/or kept clean to present an acceptable appearance and to provide<br />

protecti<strong>on</strong> from external corrosi<strong>on</strong>.<br />

g) Waste receptacles should be provided at appropriate locati<strong>on</strong>s for collecting discarded paper, rags, etc. and<br />

emptied <strong>on</strong> a regular basis.
