DR. MAGDA SHAHIN<br />

Commerce in Egypt. She has had a l<strong>on</strong>g career in the Egyptian diplomacy, lastly<br />

as an Ambassador in Athens. A member <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> the Egyptian delegati<strong>on</strong>s to numerous<br />

United Nati<strong>on</strong>s and WTO C<strong>on</strong>ferences, and c<strong>on</strong>tributor to various symposiums<br />

and workshops organized by WTO, UNCTAD, and ESCWA.<br />

DR. SALMA TALHOUK<br />

Pr<str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g>essor <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> Landscape Horticulture at the American University <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> Beirut. She is<br />

the Chair <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> the Department <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> Landscape Design and Eco-system Management<br />

and the Director <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> IBSAR, nature c<strong>on</strong>servati<strong>on</strong> center for sustainable futures.<br />

Her research activities focus <strong>on</strong> the characterizati<strong>on</strong> and c<strong>on</strong>servati<strong>on</strong> <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> plant<br />

genetic resources and native flora.<br />

DR. MOSTAFA KAMAL TOLBA, (CO-EDITOR)<br />

President <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> the Board <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> Trustees <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> the <strong>Arab</strong> Forum for Envir<strong>on</strong>ment and<br />

Development (AFED). In 1972, he led Egypt’s delegati<strong>on</strong> to the Stockholm<br />

C<strong>on</strong>ference <strong>on</strong> the Human Envir<strong>on</strong>ment, thus starting a l<strong>on</strong>g-life commitment to<br />

envir<strong>on</strong>mental issues. He was nominated, immediately after Stockholm, as the<br />

Deputy Executive Director <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> the newly-established United Nati<strong>on</strong>s<br />

Envir<strong>on</strong>ment Programme (UNEP). Within two years, he became UNEP’s<br />

Executive Director - a post he held until retiring at the end <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> 1992.
