which can be traced using remote sensing.<br />

In light <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> the uncertainty surrounding the exact<br />

dynamics <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> climate change and scientific projecti<strong>on</strong>s,<br />

this study takes into account the range<br />

from 1 m to 5 m SLR, without ascribing particular<br />

likelihoods to any particular value within<br />

that range; as such, the study seeks more to illuminate<br />

the potential disastrous ramificati<strong>on</strong>s <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g><br />

SLR, whatever the exact SLR will be.<br />

II. IMPACT OF SEA LEVEL RISE ON THE<br />

ARAB COUNTRIES<br />

The past century has witnessed a 17 cm rise in<br />

the sea level (<strong>IPCC</strong>, 2001) at a mean rate <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> 1.75<br />

mm per year (Miller and Douglas, 2004). The<br />

<strong>IPCC</strong>’s Fourth Assessment Report published in
