STAFF DISCOUNTS From time to time, we are able to negotiate discounts with suppliers for the benefit of our staff. You will be notified when this type of discount becomes available. Discounts are available from some local retailers upon production of your University card. A listing of participating retailers may be obtained from the Human Resources Officer. Staff discounts College suggestion scheme Long service awards vi. vii. As a matter of routine, the College is able to negotiate discounts from regular suppliers on purchases for College use. Any such discounts are for the benefit of the College only and must NOT be used for private purchases. Any breach or abuse of this policy constitutes a serious disciplinary matter. COLLEGE SUGGESTION SCHEME If you have any ideas or suggestions which you think could improve the efficiency and cost effectiveness of our College, we would very much like to hear from you and will undertake to investigate any suggestions put forward. LONG SERVICE AWARDS 25 years’ service with the College is recognised by the presentation of a gift by the Master. These awards are made to reward the loyalty and to recognise the experience of long-serving staff. 12 S TAFF HANDBOOK
viii. Facilities, amenities, and College benefits continued... THE UNIVERSITY CENTRE The University Centre is located in Granta Place, Mill Lane, Cambridge, and is open from 8:00am until midnight. While you remain a College employee, you are entitled to free membership of The University Centre. You and any guests may make full use of the following: SECTION 1.3 ABOUT OUR COLLEGE • Main Dining Hall for hot and cold cafeteria meals, lunchtime and evenings (daily); • Riverside Restaurant for waiter service meals, lunchtime and evenings (Monday to Saturday); • Grads Cafe for fresh coffee, baguettes, and cakes (daily); • Granta Bar and games room for a wide choice of drinks, and bar meals (daily); A Television Lounge, Reading Room, and Games Room are also provided and some rooms are available for private hire. The University centre The University sports and social club ix. THE UNIVERSITY SPORTS AND SOCIAL CLUB The University Sports and Social Club is located in Mill Lane, Cambridge, and is open during lunchtimes and evenings, Monday to Friday. Membership cards are available to members of the University from the club upon request. Facilities include a licensed bar, snooker room, television lounge, and large function room. Hot and cold food is available at lunch time. Sporting activities include 5-a-side football, cricket, darts, fishing, swimming, carpet bowls, table tennis, long distance walking, and organised day trips. STAFF HANDBOOK 13
