Health, safety, and welfare
policy and responsibilities

We have a statutory duty under the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 to
provide a safe place of work and a healthy working environment for all of
our staff, students, and visitors, and we are committed, so far as is
reasonably practicable, to safeguard your physical and mental well-being
through:
• The provision and maintenance of healthy and safe systems of work and
working conditions;
• The provision and maintenance of safe premises, plant and equipment;
• The systematic identification of hazards;
• The provision of appropriate information, instruction, training, and
supervision in safe working methods and procedures;
• The provision of safe arrangements for the use, handling, storage, and
transport of articles and substances;
• The provision of first-aid, welfare facilities, and appropriate occupational
health advice;
• The establishment of appropriate arrangements for dealing with
emergencies or situations of imminent danger to health and safety;
• The provision of safe means of access and egress at College premises, and
appropriate security arrangements.
• Our Health and Safety Policy Statement (or a simplified form of the
statement) is given to all staff on starting work, and staff are required to
sign a confirmation that they have received and read the statement.
