In 2014, <strong>Gazprom</strong> Group’s capital investments into environmental protection and sustainable<br />
use of natural resources in Russia totalled RUB 15.58bn. The reduction of environmental investments<br />
against 2013 was due to the completion of environmental activities under the Programme<br />
for the Construction of Olympic Venues and Development of Sochi as a Mountain Climatic Resort.<br />
The 2014 investment mix was dominated by investments in protection and sustainable use of<br />
water and ambient air protection, accounting for 41% and 31% of the total, respectively.<br />

In 2014, <strong>Gazprom</strong> Group paid RUB 1.75bn of negative environmental impact charges to different<br />
level budgets in the Russian Federation. The 41% decrease in the amount of charges paid<br />
against 2013 was due to the initiatives implemented by <strong>Gazprom</strong> neft Group to improve APG utilisation<br />
at its sites.<br />
Being the most significant aspect of <strong>Gazprom</strong> Group’s environmental footprint, air pollution<br />
emissions and disposal of production and consumption waste represent the biggest share of the<br />
said charges.<br />

In addition, <strong>Gazprom</strong> Group funded environmental activities and paid negative environmental<br />
impact charges to the national budgets in foreign countries where it operates.<br />
In 2014, a total of 451 state inspections of <strong>Gazprom</strong> Group’s entities were held. A total of 416<br />
irregularities were revealed, of which 329 (79%) did not pose any environmental threat and<br />
no fines or penalties were imposed. Remedial actions are taken within prescribed timelines to<br />
eliminate identified irregularities. During the reporting period, 323 such irregularities were rectified.<br />
