of Ecological Culture<br />

operates, both in<br />
Russia and abroad.<br />
<strong>Gazprom</strong> is committed to sustainable development, which is inseparable from care about<br />
the environment. The Company has built an environmental management system compliant<br />
with ISO 14001:2004.<br />
Responsibility for environmental protection is essential for a continued and successful business<br />
growth, and a key element of <strong>Gazprom</strong> Group’s business strategy. Being a major user of natural<br />
resources in Russia, <strong>Gazprom</strong> makes every effort to ensure strict compliance with Russian and<br />
international environmental protection laws, and goes beyond that by taking voluntary environmental<br />
commitments.<br />
2014 was the Year of Ecological Culture at OAO <strong>Gazprom</strong>, launched to show the Group’s<br />
commitment to sustainable development and support the Year of Culture in Russia.<br />
56 of the Group’s subsidiaries took part in the events held as part of the Year of Ecological Culture.<br />
More than 20,000 events were held, including 428 events involving NGOs. The total number<br />
of participants reached 362,700 persons.<br />
Selected results of OAO <strong>Gazprom</strong>’s Year of Ecological Culture<br />
— 62,000+ of <strong>Gazprom</strong> Group’s employees received environmental training.<br />
— 974 tours and press tours of the Group’s facilities held for members of the mass media, students and pupils.<br />
— 641 environmental contests held for children and young people.<br />
In regions:<br />
— 11,600 ha of land cleared of rubbish and improved;<br />
— 11,700 tonnes of rubbish collected and removed;<br />
— 484 water bodies rehabilitated;<br />
— 170,000+ trees and shrubs, and 77,000+ flower-beds and flower gardens planted;<br />
— 42 specially protected natural areas of federal or regional significance provided with support.<br />
Environmental management system<br />
OAO <strong>Gazprom</strong>’s Environmental Policy was approved by the Board of Directors in October 2011<br />
and recommended for adoption to <strong>Gazprom</strong> Group’s companies. The implementation of the<br />
Environmental Policy is managed by OAO <strong>Gazprom</strong>’s Coordinating Committee for Environmental<br />
Protection and Energy Efficiency, exercising control over, and providing integrated assessment<br />
of, the Company’s environmental activities.<br />
The Environmental Management System (EMS) is a key tool to implement OAO <strong>Gazprom</strong>’s<br />
Environmental Policy, integrating environmental protection management bodies of the parent<br />
company and 36 wholly-owned subsidiaries that are engaged in exploration, production, transportation,<br />
storage and processing of hydrocarbons are involved in investment activities to develop<br />
the Unified Gas Supply System.<br />
OAO <strong>Gazprom</strong>’s EMS was certified to ISO 14001:2004 in 2011. A recertification audit completed<br />
in October 2014 by DNV GL, a global independent certification body, confirmed the system’s<br />
compliance with the standard’s requirements.<br />
New Corporate Environmental Targets were set for 2014 to 2016 under OAO <strong>Gazprom</strong>’s EMS.<br />
