The Second Resolutionon Changing the Script ofOthmani Mus'hafAll praise be to Almighty Allah.Blessing and peace be on His Prophet Muhammadafter whom there is no prophet, and on all thosewho followed his way of guidance.The Islamic Fiqh Council during its 7 th session held between11-16 Rabi Al-Aakhir 1404H took note of the letter written bySheikh Hashim Wahbah Abdul Aal from Jeddah, in which hementioned the issue of changing the script of Othmani Mus'hafinto the script of dictation.The Council discussed this issue and reviewed the resolutionNo. 71 adopted by the Senior Scholars’ Council in Riyadh, SaudiArabia on 21.10.1399H in this regard, whereas it mentioned thereasons that call for continuing the writing of the Othmani scriptin the Qur’an as the following:1. It has been proved that the Qur’an was written in the Othmaniscript at the time of the Third Caliph Othman (may Allah bepleased with him) and he ordered calligraphers of the Qur’anto write it in a certain script. His action was approved bySahabah (the prophet's companions) and later by Tabi’een(those who came after the era of Sahabah) as well as thosewho came after them until now. Prophet Muhammad (peace beupon him) has been reported as saying: “You must follow mySunnah (way) and after me the way of my guided successors.”Hence, writing of the Qur’an in this script was maintained onthe pattern of Othman, Ali and other Sahabah and inimplementation of their consensus.175
