The Council reviewed the medical achievments that scienceand technology have made in the present age towards childbearingand handling the various causes of sterility.From the above-mentioned detailed study, it became clear forthe Council that artificial insemination for seeking the birth(other than the natural way of direct sexual contact between manand woman) takes place through one of the two basic methods:- The method of internal insemination by injecting man’s sperminto the appropriate place of woman’s internal part.- The method of external insemination between man’s sperm andwoman’s ovum in the test-tube of medical laboratories thenplantation of the fertilized ovum in woman’s uterus.In both methods, the woman has to expose herself to thosewho perform the operation.It also became clear to the Council from this study, as well asfrom the discussion and deliberation on the issue that means andmethods which are used for the artifical insemination to seekbirth through both internal and external ways are seven methodsin various situations. For the internal insemination there are twomethods and for external insemination, there are virtually fivemethods. The methods irrespective of their legality or illegalityin the Islamic Shari’ah are as the following:The Internal Artificial InseminationFirst Method:The male sperm of a married man is taken and injected intothe appropriate place in the vagina or uterus of his wife so thatthe sperm comes into a natural contact with the ovum discharged205
