1. Adhan is one <strong>of</strong> Islam's rituals, which is known through thetextual provisions <strong>of</strong> religion as well as the consensus <strong>of</strong> theMuslim Ummah, therefore Adhan is considered as one <strong>of</strong> thesigns that distinguish between Muslim and non-Muslim lands.A consensus has been reported that if people <strong>of</strong> a region agreeto abandon it, they would be fought for that.2. Adhan since its inception in the first Hijrah year until now hasbeen a continuous practice <strong>of</strong> Muslims for each <strong>of</strong> the dailyfive prayers in mosques, even though there may be severalmosques in one area.3. In one Hadith, Malik Ibn Huwairith (may Allah be pleasedwith him) has reported that Prophet Muhammad (peace beupon him) said: “When the time <strong>of</strong> prayer commenced, one <strong>of</strong>you should pronounce Adhan for all <strong>of</strong> you and the most seniorperson among you should lead you in prayer.” (Agreed upon)4. Intention is one <strong>of</strong> the conditions <strong>of</strong> Adhan. Hence, itspronouncement by a person such as insane, drunk and the likeis not valid, because there is no intention involved in itspronouncement. The case is similar in the above-mentionedaudio recording.5. Adhan is a physical act <strong>of</strong> worship. Ibn Qudamah said in Al-Mughni (Vol.1, P.425): “A person should not base his intentionon other person’s Adhan, because it is a physical act <strong>of</strong> worshipand it is not valid by two persons like in Salah (prayer).”6. The unification <strong>of</strong> Adhan for mosques through audio recordersas mentioned above has various risks and dangers, some <strong>of</strong>them are mentioned below:a) It is related to the legitimacy <strong>of</strong> Adhan that every prayer in themosque has some practices <strong>of</strong> Sunnah, which in the case <strong>of</strong>232
