First: General Rulingsa) The exposure of a Muslim woman to other than the person withwhom, sexual contact is legally permitted is not allowed in anyway unless there is a legitimate purpose which the IslamicShari’ah considers a justification for such exposure.b) The need of woman for treatment of a disease that troubles her ortreatment of an abnormal condition in her body, which irritatesher, is considered a legitimate purpose that permits her to exposeherself to other than her husband for this treatment, and hencethis exposure would be limited to the extent of necessity.c) Whenever the exposure of woman to other than the person withwhom sexual contact is legally permitted, is allowed for alegitimate purpose, it is necessary that the person who treats heris a Muslim woman, if possible, and if not, then a non-Muslimwoman, and if not, then a trusted Muslim man, and if not, thennon-Muslim man, in accordance with this sequence.Any Khalwah (isolated meeting) between her and the malewho treats her is not permissible except in the presence of herhusband or another woman.Second: Ruling on Artificial Insemination1. The need of married woman who cannot conceive as well asthe need of her husband for child is a legitimate purpose thatpermits her treatment through one of the permissible methodsof artificial insemination.2. The first method (in which male sperm is taken from marriedman then injected into the uterus of his wife through internalinsemination) is a method that is permissible in the IslamicShari’ah with the above-mentioned general conditions and afterit is confirmed that the woman needs this operation in order toconceive.209
