Diploma inFood Science and Technology (DFST)Diploma in FOOD Science & TechnOLOgy (DFST)Our state-of-the-art food laboratories provide relevant support in the hands-on training of the curriculum. These facilities are well integrated to supportour course curriculum as well as consultancy, applied research and development projects. The majority of our R&D projects are carried out in closecollaboration with industry partners, giving our students the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in real life working situations. Product innovationhas always been a top priority at SP and it has driven our staff and students to commercialise a portfolio of food products including the Pokka Lemon &Kalamansi drink, Two-Ply Noodles, XO Kaya, Yamie Rice, Rainbow Rice and Elderflower Tea.The Food Innovation & ResourceCentre (FIRC) was set up at SP inMay 2007 under SPRING <strong>Singapore</strong>’sTechnology Innovation Programme initiative.This one-stop centre provides integratedconsultancy, advisory and training sessionsfor food enterprises and plays a pivotal role inestablishing <strong>Singapore</strong> as a vital ‘Food Hub’and a centre for food product innovation inthe region. FIRC provides internship, finalyear projects, linkages to the food companiesand also job opportunities for our DFSTgraduates. With the increasing trend towardsglobalisation, R&D activities are expectedto grow in the food industry. Thus, there willalways be ample job opportunities for foodscience and technology graduates.Career OpportunitiesThe job market in the food, chemical,pharmaceutical and packaging industry isopen to our graduates. The food industrycurrently employ our graduates to work inproduct formulation, product development,quality assurance, processing, marketingand food services. The chemical andpharmaceutical industry employ our graduatesin various areas such as laboratory work,health food production, technical servicesin food processing and testing equipment,ingredients applications etc. The packagingindustry employs our graduates in theapplication, sales and marketing of packagingmaterials and machinery.Further EducationDFST graduates can apply for related degreeprogrammes at local or overseas universitiessuch as the degree in Food Science andTechnology at the National University<strong>Singapore</strong> or the degree in Chemistry at theNanyang Technological University.
