all classes and sit for all assessments inthe module in a subsequent semester inwhich that module is offered, subject to themaximum number of modules allowed forthat stage of study and the constraints ofthe class time-table.e) Notwithstanding Para (d) above, a studentwho is granted leave of absence from thesemester examination may apply to theDirector of his School to be exempted fromattending classes for the subsequent sittingand/or to be allowed to carry forward hispast in-course assessed component marks.The application will be considered on a caseby-case basis. The application proceduremay be obtained from the School which thestudent belongs to.f) A student shall only be granted onedeferment for each of the modules that heis taking.Conditions for RepeatingModulesa) Students who fail any core module or optionmodule of a stage shall be retained in thatstage. They need not, however, repeat themodules they have passed. If a student failsan elective module, he will be allowed tosubstitute that failed module with anotherappropriate elective module.b) While repeating a stage, students maybe allowed to take new modules of thenext stage, together with the repeatmodules. This is subject to the approvalof the respective academic Director andon condition that the total credit unitsdo not exceed the prescribed numberfor that stage, and if such classes canbe scheduled.c) Notwithstanding (ii) above, a student whohas to repeat only one module may, uponthe approval by the academic Directorbe allowed to take that repeat moduletogether with all the new modules in thenext stage, provided such classes can bescheduled. This is a privilege granted to thestudent and not a right, based solely on theassessment of the student’s ability to copewith the additional module.Conditions for RemovalA student shall be removed from thecourse if:a) he is unable to complete his course of studywithin the period of the duration allowed forthat course.b) he repeats any of the core modules, optionor elective modules and fails.c) he obtains a semestral average below 35%at one sitting for that stage.d) he is absent from the SemestralExamination without a valid reason.Appeals from StudentsStudents may make appeals in respect of theirsemestral examination results by submittingan appeal form obtainable from the StudentService Centre. All appeals must be submittedwithin four working days following the releaseof the examination results.Academic information 53
