Application Procedurei) Joint Admissions Exercise (JAE)The Joint Admissions Exercise appliesto fresh <strong>Singapore</strong>-Cambridge GCE‘O’ Level school leavers applying foradmission to full-time diploma coursesat SP. This JAE is coordinated by theMinistry of Education (MOE).a) Application PeriodApplicants can submit their applicationsat SP as internet registration is availableduring the JAE. JAE commencesthe same day as the release of the<strong>Singapore</strong>-Cambridge GCE ‘O’ levelresults by MOE.Course counselling is available at SPduring the JAE. Applicants may visit SP’sJAE website at: http://www.sp.edu.sg/JAEb) ApplicationInformation concerning the coursesavailable and instructions for completionof the e-application can be found inthe JAE 2012 Information Booklet. Thisbooklet, published by the MOE, is issuedwith Form A and is available from yoursecondary school.c) Submission of ApplicationApplication must be submitted via theInternet at http://www.moe.gov.sg/education/admissions/jae during the JAE.d) Notification of ResultsThe Joint Admissions Board will notifythe applicant of the outcome of theapplication as soon as it has beenprocessed. It will thus be unnecessaryfor the applicant to contact the JointAdmissions Board or SP before therelease of the application results.ii) Joint <strong>Polytechnic</strong> Special AdmissionsExercise (JPSAE)The Joint <strong>Polytechnic</strong> Special AdmissionsExercise (JPSAE) 2012 is open only to:<strong>Singapore</strong> Citizens or Permanent Residentswho have sat for the 2011 <strong>Singapore</strong>-Cambridge GCE ‘O’ Level Examination,ORForeign students with 2011 <strong>Singapore</strong>-Cambridge GCE ‘O’ Level Examination resultswho have studied in a government school,government-aided school or independentschool in <strong>Singapore</strong> in 2011.Note: The JPSAE 2012 is not open tostudents who have been successfullyadmitted into a JC or <strong>Polytechnic</strong> of theirchoice through the Direct School AdmissionExercise (DSA-JC Exercise) or the Direct<strong>Polytechnic</strong> Admission (DPA) Exerciseconducted in July 2011JPSAE applicants must also submit a JAEapplication. The application period coincideswith that of the JAE. Candidates who areeligible for the JPSAE may apply via JPSAEonline portal at http://www.polytechnic.edu.sg/jpsae. Application for courses with specialcourse-related requirements is subsumedunder the JPSAE. The JPSAE would thereforecater to two groups of applicants:• Those applying based on special talents(Arts, Sports, Leadership, CommunityService, Entrepreneurship) or thosedemonstrating a strong passion /aptitude through work attachments,sustained involvement in course-relatedareas, outstanding performance inprojects or competitions like the Maths /Science Olympiad.• Those applying for specific courses withspecial course-related requirements.Diploma in Applied Drama andPsychology:Applicants should possess a strongpassion for drama and psychology andbe interested in educational, communityand / or social work.Diploma in Architecture:Applicants should possess a stronginclination towards creativity and interestin the built environment especially asevidenced by project or portfolio work.Diploma in Creative Writing forTelevision and New Media:Applicants should possess strongcreative abilities, a flair for writing andsound critical-thinking skills. You shouldhave a strong desire to express yourselfand are passionate about television,journalism and / or the new media. If youare short-listed for an interview, you willneed to present a non-returnable portfoliothat may consist of:• published works in print or electronicform (eg. short stories or blogs)• audio / video productions• awards or testimonials of yourinvolvement in media or arts-relatedcompetitions, projects or otherforms of artistic, literary or dramaticexpression• teachers’ recommendationsDiploma in Digital Animation:Applicants should have special talents ordemonstrate a strong passion / aptitudein visual design, art and drawing. Ifshortlisted, applicants will be invited forportfolio interview and aptitude test.Diploma in Experience and ProductDesign:Applicants should possess a stronginclination towards creativity and problemsolving, and interest in products and theinteractions people have with them, asevidenced by project or portfolio work.Diploma in Games Design andDevelopment:Applicants should possess a strongpassion for creative conceptualization,user experience and problem solvingin designing and developing games asevidenced by project or portfolio work.Diploma in Interior Design:Applicants should possess a stronginclination and interest in creativity, visualarts, interior design and architecture asevidenced by project or portfolio work.Diploma in Landscape Architecture:Applicants should possess a stronginclination towards creativity and aninterest in nature especially as evidencedby project or portfolio work.Diploma in Media andCommunication:Applicants should be interested inmass communication and have strongwriting, creative thinking and oralcommunication skills.Diploma in Music and AudioTechnology:Applicants should be proficient inplaying at least one musical instrumentor have experience in giving musicalperformances.Diploma in Visual Communicationand Media Design:Applicants should possess a stronginclination towards critical-thinking,problem solving and creativity asevidenced by project or portfolio work.Diploma in Visual Effects and MotionGraphics:Applicants should possess specialtalents or demonstrate a strong passion /aptitude in visual design, art and drawing.If shortlisted, applicants will be invited foran interview with portfolio review.26 SINGAPORE POLYTECHNIC PROSPECTUS 2012 - 2013
