Leadership Developmentprogrammes are conducted for studentleaders, class representatives and students inthe SP Outstanding Talent programme. Theseactivities are usually done in the neighbouringcountries and are aimed at helping thestudents to gain a better appreciation ofteamwork dynamics and self -awareness.Students are also encouraged to developpersonal qualities like self -reliance,perseverance and responsibility throughthe National Youth Achievement Award(NYAA) programme.FacilitiesSP is well-equipped with a wide range ofsports facilities which includes an Olympicsizedswimming pool, an IAAF (InternationalAssociation of Athletics Federation) Class2 certified track, six squash courts, severalaerobics/dance studios, two fitness gyms,three rock climbing walls, three basketball/volleyball courts, three street soccer courts, amulti-purpose court for floorball, netball andsepak takraw, a multi-purpose field for archery,cricket, rugby, soccer and softball, two sportshalls for badminton, basketball, table tennisand volleyball, and eight tennis courts.Sports CompetitionSP has more than 30 competitive sportsteams that represent the <strong>Polytechnic</strong> in majorcompetitions like Institute-Varsity-<strong>Polytechnic</strong>(IVP) Championships, <strong>Polytechnic</strong>-ITE (POL-ITE) Games and national competitions.First poly students to conquer one of the peaks of Shi Gu Niang Mountain.The Sports for Life modules are categorisedinto three broad areas:1. Land-Based Modules2. Water-Based Modules3. Adventure-Based ModulesThe distinctive feature of the Sports for Lifemodule is to give students opportunities tolearn and participate in a sport and wherepossible, be awarded certification or take partin a milestone programme upon completion.Community ServiceThe strong emphasis on contributing back tosociety and showing care and concern for theStudent PersonalDevelopment Programme(SPDP)Learn the hip-hop dance, prepare asumptuous meal and wind surf. Try outa foreign language, be a certified FirstAider and sign up for many more funand exciting enrichment programmes!These are some of the new skills thatstudents can pick up under the StudentPersonal Development Programme. With a widevariety of interesting workshops and activities tochoose from, you will be spoilt for choice!Student ExchangeProgrammesSP has extensive student exchangeprogrammes with countries like Japan andKorea. These subsidised programmesare aimed at broadening the students’international outlook and appreciation of thehost culture and education system.Sports For LifeA well rounded SP experience comprisesmore than just academic pursuits. Hence,in the year 2012, SP will launch our Sportsfor Life programme.
