ExaminationCredit ACCUMUlationModular SystemUnder the credit accumulation modularsystem, students will take a selected numberof modules and accumulate credit units forthose modules they have passed. Modulesare assessed immediately upon completionof the required academic work at the end ofa semester. There will be two semesters inan academic year. Students who fail in thesemestral examination need only to repeatthe failed modules in the next semester oryear. They will not have to repeat all themodules belonging to the previous semester.Conditions for Awardof DiplomaA student shall pass all core modules ofthe course and, where applicable, sufficientelective modules to accumulate the stipulatednumber of credit units, before he is consideredfor the award of the Diploma.Duration Allowed toComplete CourseThe duration allowed for a student to completehis course of study is as follows:a) Two years for a one-year course of study;b) Four years for a two-year course of study;c) Six years for a three-year course of study;d) Eight years for a four-year course of study;e) Ten years for a five-year course of study.Note: A student who is admitted directly intothe second year of a three-year course willbe deemed to be doing a two-year course ofstudy. This applies to all students who do notstart from the first year of the course.Conditions for Promotionin a CourseA student must pass all the core modulesand option modules in a stage before he ispromoted to the next stage of the course. Theoverall assessment of a module is based onany one or more of the following:a) Semestral Examinationb) 100% In-Course Assessmentc) Continual AssessmentTo obtain a clear pass in a module, a studentmust score 50% or more in the overallassessment of that module.Absence from Examinationsa) A student who is absent without a validreason from the semestral examination for amodule shall be considered to have sat andfailed the module.b) If a student has a valid reason to miss takingthe semestral examination, he may apply forleave of absence from the semestral examthrough the Director of his School, using theform available from SP website.c) Where the reason for absence fromthe semestral examination is knownbeforehand, the student must submithis application for leave of absence fromthe semestral exam before the day ofthe examination. For all other reasonsof absence which cannot be knownbeforehand, such application for leave ofabsence must be submitted within twoworking days from the day of absence.d) Where a student is granted leave ofabsence from the semestral exam, themodule shall be removed from the list ofmodules registered by him for that semesterand he shall not be considered to havemade one attempt in the examination forthat module.
