scriptwriting basics and be able toconceptualise effective storyboards for avariety of emerging media formats and storyforms. Students will get to demonstrate theircreativity and imagination in creating theirprojects which can be further developedshould they go into the production stage.ST6212Portfolio & Presentation SkillsAims to explore traditional and existingportfolio methods as well as emergingtechnologies to create the portfolio. Itinvestigates strategies to enhance one’sportfolio. The module also identifies keypresentation techniques that can be applied toimprove students’ ability to communicate theircreative ideas and choices to an audience in aclear and effective manner.ST62143D Animation FundamentalsAims to cover the traditional animationprinciples in-depth and adapt them for3D. Through hands-on practical lessons, students will use professional 3D animationsoftware to adopt an organised approach tocomputer animation and learn techniquesfor creating convincing movement. At theend of the module, students are expectedto demonstrate an understanding of bodymechanics and produce entertaining pieces of3D animation involving anthropomorphic andbasic humanoid characters.ST6215Modeling, Texturing andRiggingAims to impart the knowledge in thefundamentals of organic character modeling, texturing and rigging. Students must havepassed their 3DF prior to taking this module.Students will tap into their understandingin the aesthetics and anatomy gained fromFigure Drawing and bridge their art andtechnical knowledge in the 3D charactercreation process.ST6216Digital Lighting and RenderingAims to equip students with essential lightingand rendering skills required to furnish a 3Dscene. Various lighting and rendering methodswill be covered throughout this module toprovide students with a better understandingof their applications.ST6217Digital 2D AnimationAims to build upon the knowledge gained inthe Traditional Animation module and exposestudents to the concepts and techniquesinvolved in 2D animation using professionaldigital tools. It allows students to producetheir work in a significant digital environmentin addition to pencil and paper. This modulefurther emphasises the principles of animationincluding line of action and solid drawing, and introduces students to modern digitalanimation approaches such as the use ofmulti-plane cameras and limited animation.Students will then apply these concepts toproduce 2d animation within the digital realm.ST62183D Character AnimationAims to build upon the animation conceptstaught in the 3D Animation Fundamentalsmodule. This module will focus on creatingperforming characters in a character drivenscenario or story. It will expose students tospecific approaches for character animationsuch as facial animation and lip sync. Studentswill be taught how to make their digitalactors act and display convincing emotions.Students are encouraged to make use oftheir personal character rigs created in theModeling, Texturing and Rigging module intheir animation.ST6219Acting for AnimationAims to provide students with a foundationin acting, improvisation, characterisationtechniques and directing. No prior knowledgein acting is required. The module will be taughtusing a series of interesting practical lessons.Students will be able to craft their acting andbasic directing skills, and apply the techniqueslearnt in their animation productions.ST6220Animation Studio 1Aims to provide students with primaryproduction knowledge in integrating theirpreviously learned skill sets ranging frommodeling to rendering to comprehensivelydevelop and manage a short animated filmproduction. Students are to create standardproduction timelines based on their presentedideas and to utilise assets created in theModeling, Texturing and Rigging and DigitalLighting and Rendering modules wheneverpossible to produce and deliver an entertaining3D animated film.ST6251Advanced 3D ModelingAims to build upon the fundamental conceptsand techniques of organic modeling coveredin Modeling,Texturing and Rigging. Studentswill learn to use advanced digital sculptingtools to create detailed and believable modelsthat are along the lines of those seen in highprofile productions.ST6252Advanced RiggingAims to provide students with morespecialized rigging knowledge based onfoundations from Modeling, Texturing andRigging module to develop professionalanimation setup to support complex characteranimation (e.g quadruped rigging, stretchylimbs, muscular system and cloth simulation).Students are to apply industry level riggingsetup to pre-modeled characters effectivelywithin specific constraints and animationsetting using preset software tools and script.ST6253Practical SculptingAims to provide an avenue for studentsto pursue the experience in the creationof physical maquettes through theirunderstanding in the anatomy, characterdesign and aesthetics gained from FigureDrawing, and Modeling, Texturing andRigging. Students will learn the techniquesand workflow in the creation of maquettes forvisualisation purposes.ST6301Video for AdvertisingAims to equip students with the knowledgeand ability to produce videos for commercialadvertising purposes. Students will learn theart of producing TV commercials. They willbe guided to conceptualise and script forcommercial advertising as well as to applytheir video production, post production, lighting and camera skills. Students areexpected to produce actual commercials aspart of their deliverables.ST6310Advanced DrawingAims to explore the relationship of figuredrawing between animation and theconceptualisation process. Students need toarticulate a visual story which they preparefor their animation production to demonstratehow its mythology and humanity is reflectedin the characters design using life drawingprinciples. Integration of directorial art style, environment and choice of medium would beapplied in their Animation Studio 2 module.ST6311Conceptualization & LayoutAims to equip students with knowledge of theanimation pre-production process. They willlearn about advanced storytelling conceptsand discover various visual styles in animation. They will also learn about art direction, theprocess of creating mood in a scene viastaging and lighting design, as wellas cinematic continuity and consistency.Students will then apply the concepts taughtand generate story ideas, concept art, storyboards, layouts and animatics which theycan use in their Animation Studio 2 module.Synopses 331
