SC5021Introduction to Health PsychologyEver wondered what the mind-bodyconnection is all about? What are the linksbetween our behaviour and lifestyle toour health? Health psychology introducestheories of health protective behaviours suchas seeking and receiving health care, aswell as adherence to medical advice. It alsoexamines stress and pain in relation to healthand disease and aims to identify factors thatprevent ill health and promote good health.SC5024Theatre-in-EducationTheatre-in-Education is more than justputting up plays at assemblies. Who decideson the content? Do plays have to beperformed in the school hall? What happensafter the play? From planning to execution,students will learn how to use performanceas a platform to teach. They will also learn tocreate pre- or post-performance materials tohelp pupils learn.SC5028Cultural DiversityStudents will learn about the diversity ofraces, cultures and religions of <strong>Singapore</strong> andunderstand the importance of the crossculturaldifferences in <strong>Singapore</strong> society.They will gain an understanding of how basicpsychological processes may vary acrosscultures. Students will explore the influenceof cultural traditions and customs in shapingsocial behaviour in <strong>Singapore</strong>.SC5032Graduation ProjectWant to have a go at researching,conceptualising, planning and facilitatingyour own Applied Drama and Psychologyprogramme for a target audience? In thismodule, students will get the chance to worktogether with their classmates to research,facilitate and devise a relevant programme forchildren or youths on social issues such aschild abuse, homelessness, bullying, racism,crime, and chemical dependency.SC5040Applied Drama andPsychology in ActionAn overview module that aims to introduceto students social services and communitydevelopment agencies. The focus of thismodule will be on learning journeys to thevarious organisations that carry out applieddrama work for their clients. Students willalso benefit from guest speakers fromthe various social service and communitydevelopment organisations sharing aboutcurrent work carried out in the industry. Basicpresentation, IT and communication skillswill also be taught in context of the possibletypes of work students are likely to carry outin these organisations.SC5041Drama ConventionsStudents will be taught the different dramatechniques that are commonly used in applieddrama. Practical sessions on the integrationof these techniques on specific applied dramaforms will be demonstrated in this module.SC5043Ethics in Applied DramaAims to examine the ethics and practices ofdifferent genres of Applied Drama. Throughcase studies, it explores the work of AppliedDrama companies or groups and the effects oftheir ethical practices. Students will adapt andapply these ethical models to the project workthey have designed.SC5044Educational DramaAims to introduce students to the principlesand practices of Educational Drama.Educational Drama is a process of meaningmakingby applying the elements of drama(particular role) to ideas, issues and eventsthat connect with lived experience. Themodule examines learning in and throughdrama within the forms of Process Dramaand Story Drama, with a focus on structuringlearning in the enactive mode. Throughpractical sessions and projects, students willdevelop skills in planning, implementing andevaluating drama lessons and units of workfor participants of specific age groups andlearning needs.SC5045Qualitative Research MethodsThis module introduces students to the basicconcepts, methods and issues involved inresearch. The module focuses on the variousresearch methods such as action research,ethnography and case studies. At the end ofthe module, students will design and conductsimple research experiments and projects.SC5046Developmental Issues in ChildhoodThis module presents a theoretically andempirically grounded attempt to understandwhy development goes awry in some childrenbut not others who have ostensibly similarhistories and experiences. With greaterrecognition that a child’s ability to learndepends on skills learned as a toddler, suchas communicating with others or exploringthe environment, this module explores theneed to identify and treat young children’sdevelopmental issues so as to reduce oreliminate the need for intensive specialservices later.SC5047Acting and DirectingWhat makes an actor believable? Howcan one effect a powerful and impactfulperformance? In this module, studentslearn the ropes of acting and directingstage performances through scripts andimprovisations.SC5048Marketing for Community ServicesExplores basic marketing theories andconcepts. Through projects and presentations,students will also learn events and budgetmanagement skills critical in the communityservices industry.SC5049Arts and Community ServicesManagementHave a good programme that wouldbenefit a particular community group?In this module, students learn how toapply for funding, market programmesand present proposals to variousorganisations.SC5050Adolescent PsychologyAdolescence is the intermediary stage ofgrowth between childhood and adulthoodduring which a person experiences a variety ofbiological changes and encounters a numberof emotional issues. In this module, studentswill look into issues related to adolescence likematurity in the body; sexual activities; teenagepregnancy; and drug and alcohol use.SC5051Psychological Perspectivesin AgeingEducates students on the holistic needs ofolder adults, focussing particularly on thepsychological and emotional effects of ageingand the impact on mindsets and behavioursin older adults.
