Design Studios / LaboratorIES / WorkshopsThe Materials Testing Laboratory providesfacilities for experimental studies on theproperties and strengths of various materialsencountered in building and civil engineeringworks. A range of equipment is availablefor the various standard tests on cement,aggregate, concrete, bricks and materials forroads. Facilities are also available for studentsto try out various concrete productionprocesses such as mixing, placing, curing andtesting concrete.The MICE Maze is a learning space designedfor interactive learning to take place throughexperimentation with audioscape andlightscape. It allows for experimentation withaudio visual systems and its effects includingthe use and placement of a variety of soundsystems and the use of lighting equipmentfor overall effects, colour and blending. Thislaboratory can be used as shell space forplanning and simulation of events to takeplace through the concept of an “exhibition/event hall”.The Photographic Room is equipped with anadvanced digital SLR camera with supportingstudio lighting and computing facility to allowstaff and students to experiment and recordimages of their teaching aids and projects.The Plotter Room is equipped with laserprinters and colour plotters to facilitate printingby staff and students.The Project Laboratory is equipped withfacilities and tools to support students inthe exploration of their project and designthrough working with materials and models.The laboratory is well maintained according tothe relevant environmental health and safetyrequirements and standards.The QS e-Studios consist of 2 labs,equipped with more than 12 PC systems.The studios provide facilities for students touse specialised computer software for theirassignments and course of studies. Some ofthese software are ArchiBUS, Adobe Suite,CatoEnterprise, CADMeasure and AutoCAD,as well as OPERA system.
