Appendix D – Construction StandardsSection D.2 Revisions to CDOT Standards Specifications for Road and Bridge ConstructionD. Excavation, Removals And Embankment1. ScopeThe work covered by this subsection concerns the furnishing of all labor,equipment, supplies and materials necessary to perform clearing,grubbing, removal of objectionable materials from the right-of-way prior tograding operations, and placement of embankment to conformity withlines, grades and typical sections as shown on the plans or as staked.2. Clearing and GrubbingThe natural ground surface shall be cleared of all vegetation such astrees, logs, upturned stumps, roots of downed trees, brush, grass, weedsand all other objectionable materials within the limits of the construction.All surface objects and all trees, stumps, roots and other protrudingobstructions, not designated to remain, shall be cleared and/or grubbed,including mowing, as required, except undisturbed stumps and roots andnonperishable solid objects which will be a minimum of 2 ft belowsubgrade or slope of embankments. Trees which are to be removed shallbe removed in such a manner as not to injure standing trees, plants, andimprovements which are to remain.3. Removal and Disposal of MaterialsAll materials removed shall be disposed of outside of the right-of-way. Noaccumulation of flammable material shall remain on or adjacent to theright-of-way.
