Appendix A – Definitions and AbbreviationsSection A.1 General Definitions and Abbreviationsƒ Development Construction Meeting – A meeting between the Designer and assignedagents and the Engineer to review proposed work necessary to construct the project,prior to proceeding with the work. A meeting may be required for each project, at theEngineer’s discretion.ƒ Development Construction Permit – Permit to construct public or privateimprovements for a project or within an unimproved right-of-way, obtained by applicationto the Local Entity.ƒ Director of Public Works (DPW) – The Larimer County Director of Public Works whooversees the Engineering Department.ƒ Driveway – A private access with 20 trips per day or less onto a public or privateroadway.ƒ Driveway Approach – The portion of the driveway lying in the public right-of-way orpublic access easement between the roadway of a public street and the right-of-way orpublic access easement line, for the full width of the access, including both apron andside slopes.ƒ Easement – The property right of the Local Entity to use lands owned in fee by a privateparty for the purposes of maintenance, access, drainage, or other use, as specified on aplat or deed of dedication.ƒ Engineer - The County Engineer, Larimer County, Colorado, or their authorizedrepresentative, acting on behalf of the County.ƒ FEMA – Federal Emergency Management Agency.ƒ FHWA – Federal Highway Administration, Department of Transportation.ƒ Final Acceptance – The written notification from the County, after the County finds theWarranty Period to be satisfactorily completed, that all public improvements are free ofdefects and the County releases the Developer from future maintenance obligations.ƒ FIRM – Flood Insurance Rate Map.ƒ Frontage – The distance along the road right-of-way line of a single property ordevelopment within the property lines. Corner property at an intersection would have aseparate frontage along each street.ƒ GMA - Growth Management Area Overlay Zone District – The areas defined in theLarimer County Master Plan as existing or future potential annexation areas. Whereverthese standards associate “GMA” with a particular city, “GMA” refers to that town orcity’s annexation areas.ƒ HBP – Hot Bituminous Pavement. Pavements constructed with a mix of aggregate andasphaltic/bituminous cement. (Similar acronyms used by other references may include:ACP – Asphalt Concrete Pavement, HAC – Hot Asphalt Concrete, HMA – Hot MixedAsphalt, and similar variations.)ƒ HMA – Hot Mix Asphaltƒ IGA - Inter-Governmental Agreementƒ Inspector – An authorized representative of the Engineer, assigned to make inspectionsto assure work is completed in compliance with plans, standards and specifications.ƒ Intersection Sight Distance – Refer to Corner Sight Distance.Larimer County Rural Area Road Standards Page A-3October 22, 2007
