GERMAR RUDOLF, RESISTANCE IS OBLIGATORYgleaned from publications of the first half of the 20th century. To mostof the people there, the concept of the eros or cognition seemed to beunknown. They seemed to have no concept of the exciting experienceof finding answers to long-held questions, of finally comprehendingwhat hitherto had not been understood, of exploring new scientific territories. What I found lacking at this Max Planck Institute – a selfless, idealisticspirit of discovery – I found at that time during my leisure time inrevisionism: a scientific atmosphere of departure impelled by lots ofcuriosity and the satisfying sensation of learning a lot, discovering a lotand moving a lot with relatively modest means. Especially the positionas a science publisher, into which I was evolving after 1996 – or ratherinto which fate pushed me – was particularly attractive for me, becauseafter the researcher, the publisher is generally the second person to learnabout new research results, although without the painstaking researchefforts frequently lasting several years. In addition, the publisher receivesthe results of many researchers of various research approaches oreven fields of research. Hence one is in a position from where one obtainsa much wider perspective of entire fields of research than is possibleif concerned only with specialized fields. I therefore found my newactivity as science publisher of controversial research results to be extremelysatisfying intellectually. It has to be added that it was obviouslymotivating for a number of researchers, if they could be confident thattheir research efforts would bear fruit in the shape of an actually publishedwork. This symbiotic relationship to the authors and researchers, which in itself promoted research, was equally motivating.I have inserted this detailed description of my life under the aspectof curiosity, of the will to know, because the prosecution could potentiallyaccuse me that the will to know is not my primary motivation butsome merely imputed political or religious persuasions. The course ofmy life so far proves that such an imputation would be absurd.I would like to go into one last aspect of curiosity, which is the wellknownphenomenon that the grass always seems greener on the otherside of the fence. In our case this means that my curiosity was and isbeing also and especially instigated because one tries to forbid me thesefruits of revisionist knowledge. He who uses all the power at the State’sdisposal in order to suppress certain research and to outlaw its results, automatically exposes himself to the suspicion that he is trying to con-56
