ApplicabilityThis Airworthiness Notice is applicable to all Hong Kong registered aeroplanes of morethan 5700 kg MTWA issued with a Certificate of Airworthiness and require to obtainPBN operational approvals.2. Introduction2.1 The continuing growth of aviation increases demands on airspace capacitytherefore emphasizing the need for optimum utilization of available airspace.Improved operational efficiency derived from the application of area navigationtechniques has resulted in the development of navigation applications in variousregions worldwide and for all phases of flight.2.2 Requirements for navigation applications on specific routes or within a specificairspace must be defined in a clear and concise manner. This is to ensure that theflight crew and the air traffic controllers are aware of the on-board areanavigation system capabilities in order to determine if the performance of thesystem is appropriate for the specific airspace requirements.2.3 A set of aircraft and aircrew requirements is needed to support PBN operationswithin a defined airspace. There are two kinds of navigation specification, areanavigation (RNAV) and required navigation performance (RNP), as defined byICAO Document Doc 9613.2.4 A navigation specification that includes a requirement for on-board navigationperformance monitoring and alerting is referred to as an RNP specification. Onenot having such requirements is referred to as an RNAV specification. An areanavigation system capable of achieving the performance requirement of an RNPspecification is referred to as an RNP system.AN-102E P.128 February 2011
