To provide teachers with the techniques of presenting new language structure ,vocabulary and grammatical points, reading, writing, listening and speaking skills areemphasized in the training7. To acquaint teachers with the rules and regulations of UNRWA8. To help teachers in finding ways of connecting theory to practice in light of theknowledge acquired9. To raise teachers knowledge with current trends and issues in the field of education ingeneral.2. Programme DescriptionThe INSET programme, as reported by English supervisors in the interview, consists of oneyear course to be followed by a summer course. Training is given in weekly spaced 3 hoursseminars throughout the school year (24 seminars) followed by a six day summer courseinvolving about 30 hours. Most of training sessions are conducted after schooldays from11a.m to 1 p.m. Training sessions are held in training rooms belonging to the EDC or inparticular UNRWA schools chosen by supervisors in each area.3. TraineesThe trainees are English teachers working in UNRWA schools. They are commonly chosenfrom newly appointed teachers of 1-5 years experience. Other experienced teachers can also- 113 -
