Self-Directed ModelsThese innovative models are guided by the assumption that teachers can best determine theirneeds. They learn more efficiently when they initiate and plan their learning activities ratherthan spending time on activities designed for them by others and not necessarily relevant totheir needs. (Sparks & Louks- Horsely, 1989, p. 235).Self -Directed Models Merits involve1. Flexibility2. Individually- centered3. Self analysis and personal reflection4. Thoughtful decision makingSelf -Directed Models caveats involve1. Little collaboration entailed2. Chosen needs may be not sufficiently challenging worthwhile or carefully specifiedSelf –Directed models involve a wide range of models including, teaching journal, videoaudio-selfassessment and the use of portfolios.B. Collaborative ModelsThey are based on the collaborative work maintained either at a small scale as a group ofteachers working together in one school, or at a larger scale involving organizations, institutions, universities and even countries.
